The video “How Art Can Help You To Analyze” shows how art appreciation can have real world applications. The video states that art can teach how “to study thoroughly, analyze the elements observed and articulate them succinctly, formulate questions to address the seeming inconsistencies”. I chose to analyze that video through rhetoric, depth and logic.

The video conveys rhetoric by using logos and ethos to explain the value of analyzing art. For logos it gives clear reasons as to how studying art can give skills in different fields such as medicine or police-work. Ethos is used in showing how to make those fields effective, we want these professionals to be observant and questions to ask. I have decided not to include Pathos because the video did not make an emotional argument. In other words, they need to have “eyes training”.

The video has depth by going into detail explaining how art appreciation teaches you to to study thoroughly, analyze the elements observed and articulate them succinctly, formulate questions to address the seeming inconsistencies. The video goes beyond just listing these topics by going into detail addressing the usefulness of each one. The video takes the time to back up the reasons by providing unique scenarios where only those with that perspective are able to see them.

Watching “How Art Can Help You To Analyze” it was possible to identify a strong logical structure. Each concept was clearly related and they were able to flow from a topic to another. It was able to describe situations where the elements of analyzing art could be used. The video has a racional line of thought without wild jumps to each point.

In conclusion, the video was able to show rhetoric through Logos and Ethos, depth through detailed examples and logic through structure. It was really helpful and it gives good advice about how to appreciate art.

After watching the video “How can art help you analyze ” you could understand why art is so important to the world. Art is all over the world and we barely notice it. Not everyone can understand certain pieces of art and this brings out more skills in a person. Throughout the video Ted-Ed uses relevance, logic and and debth to help readers understand “How can art help you analyze. ” The author uses relevance to help readers understand “How can art help you analyze” because if you can analyze the thing you cant see in art, you can use that ability in your everyday life. For example  a doctor or a police officer have to use there eyes to analyze  a problem or to diagnose somebody. If you can analyze even the little things in art or in general it is a helpful skill .The other uses logic to explain the importance of analyzing art because sometimes in art you’re not gonna see every detail so its up to you to interpret and inference what the art significance. For example in the video there was a painting of a train with no other detail around it. If you really interpret the picture and use logic you can imagine all the other things surrounding the picture. Lastly the author uses debth to explains to listeners the deeper you look into something the more you’ll understand. Art isn’t something that can be analyzed easily but with practice you can use these skills else where too.

In the video “How art can help you analyze” has concepts such as precision, logic and significance. The author shows precision when she describes how the doctor and police officer develop each case. For example, the doctor had to match three symptoms to determine which disease the patient had. While, the police had to see each and every detail/clue to see how many robberies there actually were and analyze the crime scene. The two cases showed logic being used. It showed how all of the five senses are important because it helps to find the solution and analyze everything. For example, the doctor questions the patient’s symptoms. Asking him how he feels to determine what is really wrong. The doctor also pays attention visually to see how the patient looks externally. He also checks the x-rays. The doctor tried to eliminate the possibility of chickenpox because he only had high fever and fatigue but not the last symptom. This means the patient was negative and needed to continue to be diagnosed. At the same time the police officers questioned the robbers to see how many were actually there. Visually analyzing help them further their investigation. For both cases the author describes every significant detail to find solutions because using analyzing helps to solve problems. In the video the presenter used four techniques such as Kairos, Logos, Ethos and Pathos. She used these techniques to help convince the audience to understand clearly her argument. She gave clear examples in the video and how it is important to analyze everything in a problem. Politicians running for office use ethos, pathos and logos to convince/ connect with people so they can vote for them.

In the short film  “how art can help analyze” used three intellectual standard, accuracy, clarity and depth. First clarity, throughout the video the presenter express the message very clear and understandable . The presenter stick his point “study of art can analyze things better ” and give example on real life situation such as how art can help investigate criminals, how nurses and doctor get helps understand better situation of the patient issues. Furthermore, through those example,  presenter accurately explained  and prove his point “how study of art can help analyze things better”. `

I pick the video “why art matters” and evaluate if it had any categories that will be classified as intellectual qualities. The categories that I chose were clarity, logic, and rhetoric, the video starts out with one of the speakers using an example of rhetoric. They shared, “if one has heightened visual acumen from spending time looking at things you are existing in a more later, aware environment” this person mentioned actual facts and science to back up their claim. Throughout this whole video, it showed examples of clarity. There was never any confusing statement and was very easy to comprehend.  this video also presented many examples of logic throughout the video. They gave good examples and compared their point in a way every person would be able to understand their point. the category of logic can also be combined with rhetoric.

The video named ”The Power to Look” expressed clarity, depth, and logic standards for quality. In the video, at first, they clearly explained the strategies to set up a dynamic relationship between artist, artwork, and viewing by giving examples on ”American Gothic” by Grand Wood. Then they elaborate on these strategies by representing the backgrounds of the three artworks and showing us the actual meanings behind the symbols.

The first artwork is the beaded crown from Nigeria. The presenter explained what each symbol reflects and why they are there. For instance, the beaded veil which is the key part of the crown made to protect the subjects of the king from the power of his gaze and to hide the king’s individuality. Also, the birds on the crown represent the women’s support in the community, and the biggest bird on the top stands for the senior wife of the King and reflects social hierarchy. All the information in this part is easy to understand and makes sense. So, they used the clarity and logic standards.

The second artwork is ”Paris Street, Rainy Day” by Gustave Caillebotte. In this part, they dug much deeper into Paris’ social and modernization history to help us to understand the background of this work of art. They gave very detailed information about the steps taken to take the city to a contemporary level by using the logic and depth standards.

The last one is the ”Untitled Film Still #92” by Cindy Sherman. At the beginning of this part, they explained to us the reasons why Sherman created these photo series. Then, they showed us the ”Untitled Film Still #92”. The presenter expressed that in the photo the female subject is cowering on the ground and viewers looking at her from a position of power. And they added since the subject is the director’s herself, she is the one directing our viewing experience. I think, in this part, the presenter used the depth standard very effectively.

In this blog I evaluated how and if the video “How Art Can Help You Analyze” had met the standards for three of the ten categories for the evaluation of a work’s intellectual qualities.  The categories were of my choosing and the ones selected were clarity, logic, and relevance.

The video easily met all three standards of quality with the piece being very clear, logical and relevant throughout.  The language used was very clear and at no point was I confused as to what the video was trying to convey.  The logic was very sound as the video gave good examples of how analyzing art would help you analyze and describe criminal investigations as well as medical situations.  And the whole video pertained to describing and explaining how art can help you analyze, so it was very relevant.

One of the techniques the presenter used in achieving her goal was to analyze a certain painting and showing how this directly correlates to becoming a better doctor, nurse or criminal investigator.  After the evaluation of the painting she showed how this process could enhance one’s ability to study something more thoroughly, better analyze the elements observed, articulate what was observed more effectively, and formulate questions to address inconsistencies.   She then showed how these skills are directly related to some the work involved in the criminal and medical fields, and problem solving in general.

People are always debate about the importance of art in life. But the video Why art matters, by DR. STEVEN ZUCKER and DR. BETH HARRIS grabbed my attention. Especially, it represents different reasons from the people about the importance of the art.
In the article intellectuals standards for quality that professor Fess posted, I learned that there are nine universal  elements for good written essays.  And this list is clarity, precision, accuracy, depth, breadth, logic, significance, relevance, and fairness. These nine elements help us to judge and analyze any written text or any speech we listen to.  And they also support critical thinking skills. In this essay I will evaluate the video by using three of these elements.
I pick logic, clarity, and depth to use them in evaluating the video. First of all, The video idea is going around why looking at art gives it importance.also on how we practice visual observation in everyday life. Even though the speakers in the video are giving their opinions, from the whole video we can use some intellectual standards for qualities.
First, clarity is what gives meaning for the video. The speaker’s words were easy to understand and made sense with the question. None of the speakers were using slang that may stop the glibness of the speech.
Second, the logical way that the speakers were using the express their point of view.they clarified their opinion in logical order. The transition and the connection between each reason was good.
Third, the depth of the answers. Each one from the speaker was giving reason why looking at the art is important. One of them said that art is everywhere around us. Another one said that we live in a visual world. Which i’m really agree with, because what we see is much longer in our minds than what we hear. And one of the most important tasks in our brains is imagination. We always choose to make images for the things we don’t know.
To sum up, art always leaves an impact.  And language and how to write are kind of art. We should know how to use it correctly and effectively.

How art can help you analyze

In the video “how art can help you analyze” the narrator explained the three intellectual standard depth, breadth and logic can help us to improve our personal skill,
First intellectual standard is depth,  for many people looking at an art mean just to see the picture but for many others its mean understanding the depth of the art. While look into the picture they try to find the meaning that aren’t surfaced in the painting. They analyze the art and try to understand every aspect of it. In the video the narrator talked about the art “time transfixed” by Rene Magritte. In that picture there were  many unanswered questions. To understand that painting you have look deep into the details of it.
Second intellectual standard is breadth, everyone has their own understating and knowledge of the art. By learning about other people point of view, Having, a wide discussion of every details, and  analyzing various perspective to understand others point of view. When you discuss your point of view with other and try to understand their perspective it always helps you to see more in the art that your eyes might have missed.
Last intellectual standard is logic, when you analyze and widely discuss an art your mind start to make sense of all the details and evidence. Therefore you come with logical explanation for the art you have been analyzing. In the video it showed the doctor analyze a patient symptoms, verify every details and come up with a logical conclusion of the disease the patient have.
Art help us to be more thorough with our analyzing, be more open about other perspective, have widely discussion and form a logical conclusion.
