our lives run by standards, some of them are good standards and some are bad standards. In the video, ” The Power Look”, by Art Institute of Chicago meets three standards of intellectual quality, clarity is the most important intellectual standard to explain the crown from Nigeria in every possible detail, the details on the video are so deep and that is the depth standard, the last standard is the breadth they covered all the views on the artworks.

Yoruba is one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa and they had a unique crown for their king. clarity is what it been used in the video to describe the crown of Yoruba’s king, the video explained the birds on the crown which represent essentials support of women in the community and the top bird represents the king’s senior wife. the technique that the presenter used in the video was the clear word technique. this takes us back to the reading Chapter 1.3 “Intellectual Standards for Quality” when the speech is clear the audience can follow the path that the speaker is communicating.

Breadth is the second intellectual standard the presenter used in the video. ” Paris Street, Rainy day,” by Caillebotte, the video considered most views in this painting. the painter born into the Parisian upper-class family; Caillebotte was the wealthy man in this painting he had access to tools like camera lucida which enable him to picture the changing world in a new way. in his painting, it shows rich people in the front and working-class people in the back. In the textbook, breadth means how wide the topic has been discussed. in the video, the presenter has been discussed the painting in breadth way, from the painter’s name to the Paris project all have been discussed.

Logic is what makes a thing clear and makes sense. In the video, the presenter makes a great sense while explaining the artworks. Before watching the video, I thought arts is only drawing, choosing the right color, and how awesome the painting looks. Now after all the logic that been used in the video to explain these arts, I changed my mind in how to look at arts. For example, Sherman’s picture is an art that carries a message to everyone that looks at it. Her message is how the society used to value the women. At first, I just saw a woman cowering on the ground and didn’t make any sense to me, but after the logic that presenter used in the video to explain her message, it becomes an art that makes sense to me.

Overall, Logic, clarity and breadth are what the presenter used to explain the three-art works in the video.

Mahmoud, your post does a really nice job of bringing ideas from the “Standards of Intellectual Quality” piece to bear on the “The Power to Look” video.
