Response to Question, “Why Art Matters”.

I think the presenters in the video titled, Why Art Matters, did an excellent job in showing the importance of viewing art other than from just an aesthetic point of view.  As one presenter indicated that we live in a visual world and being able to better understand what we see can help us out in many aspects of our lives.  Some of these aspects as suggested by the presenters included noticing all the different ways images communicate, an increased visual acumen accomplished by intensely looking at things, a higher overall awareness of yourself and your surroundings, a desire and capability to see beyond first impressions and finally an increased ability to notice details in things.  They had numerous and credible arguments for the importance of Art and this video might even sway the most ardent of skeptics.  The only question I would pose to maybe lower the value of this video and viewing art in general, is whether these types of skills could be attained more quickly and to a higher level of competence by doing other activities?  Just a thought.

The presenters in the video titled, “Why Art Matters”, did an outstanding job in shining a light on how art reflects on how we communicate. As one presenter said, art is a way of communication which is just as important as being alive today, it makes you a better person. Many viewers have many different perspectives though, many have developed a new analytical perspective to absorb and grasp what they see within the art through perception. There are many forms of art, art is everywhere all over the world it can be in the park, on buildings and in the street, there is so much more meaning to art than the regular aesthetic point of view, seeing art beyond the first impression can allow viewers to see the true meaning and essence of the art. Overall this video did open my mind to fully absorb art to truly see and recognize the story behind the art.

I picked this question as well and i really agree with you. I too think that this video helped shine a light on how art is actually really more then just what most people might perceive it to be and has a cheaper impact.

Jure, your post does a great job of succinctly getting to the heart of what the video is trying to convey. To answer your question, I think the kinds of critical thinking the presenters are discussing is definitely connected to the critical thinking that takes place in other activities, which, depending on one’s habits and inherent talents, might be quicker and/or easier than criticizing works of art.

Jury you really did an amazing job summering well the video ” why art Matters “?.you went over every single detail in it and you work really stand out for discussion prompt. And your question is a good one that can really open a discussion on artwork . It is criticising art that really make its beauty because it is like everybody could imagine and is free to think what he thinks about it .
